“McKenna exhibits traits from many previous great fantasy authors pulled
together in threads that make her eminently accessible to fantasy readers.”

– Fantasy Book Review on Dangerous Waters

With The Hadrumal Crisis, Juliet E. McKenna reinvented the magical world she created for Solaris. Now she brings the latest saga of wizards, wonder, and war to a thundering climax with Defiant Peaks.

Archmage Planir and the wizards of Hadrumal have demonstrated their devastating powers and the corsair threat is no more. But the mainland rulers' relief is overshadowed with fear of one day facing such a threat to their own dominion. Corrain, Baron Halferan and Lady Zurenne believe they have finally won respite from all their trials. Yet the lull before winter descends from the distant northern peaks will be a short one.

Now is the perfect time to read the whole trilogy – one filled with pirates, politics, wizards, and adventure, which confirms McKenna’s place amongst the pantheon of top fantasy writers with a thrilling reinvention of the genre.

The prequel for the series, The Wizard’s Coming, is available as a free eBook (free to download as an ePub, PDF and Kindle) and introduces some of the characters and events leading up to this stunning fantasy series from a major voice in fantasy writing.

Other books in the series

The Archmage of Hadrumal enforces the Edicts of the Council of Wizardry as all his predecessors have done. Foremost is the ban on magecraft in warfare.

But old certainties have been shaken. There is rumour of rogue wizardry in Lescar’s recent civil war and corsairs raid the Caladhrian Coast. In Hadrumal, Archmage Planir waits and watches, keeping his own counsel. That doesn’t suit the Masters and Mistresses of the Elements. There are too many whispers and doubts about Planir’s judgement lately, in Hadrumal and on the mainland.

Written to be accessible to readers coming fresh to McKenna’s magical world, The Hadrumal Crisis is a powerful epic filled with incredible characters.
